**It
is highly recommended that when taking any advanced math course,
the student should have taken the previous advanced level math course.**
ALGEBRA
I
Grades 9-12
This course
is the first course in the college prep sequence. It covers beginning
algebra topics such as variables, polynomials, and graphing. This
course is offered on the regular and advanced level.
ALGEBRA 1 A/B
Grades 9-12
This is a
course designed for students who score Basic or Below Basic on previous benchmark examinations in Math and may not perform well in Algebra I. Algebra I
A/B is a two semester course. Eligibility for this course will be
based on previous benchmark scores, previous math grades, attendance records, discipline
records and the 8th grade math teacher's recommendation.
GEOMETRY
Grades 9-12
This college
prep course deals with the properties and relationships of points,
lines, planes, angles, 2-dimensional, and 3-dimensional figures. Principals of logical reasoning
and various problem-solving strategies are introduced. This course
is taught on both regular and advanced levels.
Prerequisite: Algebra 1
ALGEBRA
II
Grades 11-12
This is the
third course in the college prep sequence. Students will develop an
understanding of the real and complex number systems. Some time is
spent developing the concept of linear and quadratic functions. This
course is taught on both regular and advanced levels.
Prerequisite: Geometry with teacher approval recommended.
PRE-AP ALGEBRA III
Grades 11-12
This course
is designed for college-bound students who show above-average ability
and interest in mathematics. It is recommended for students whose
college major will require more than college algebra. Topics of study
include functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, conic sections, and sequences and series. This course
is taught on an advanced level.
Prerequisite: Algebra II with teacher approval recommended.
PRE-AP CALCULUS w/TRIG
Grades 11-12
This course
is designed for college-bound students who show above-average ability
and interest in mathematics. It is recommended for students whose
college major will require more than college algebra. Topics of study
include trigonometric functions and their graphs, identities, equations, polar coordinates, and solutions of triangles with applications. This course is taught on an advanced level.
Prerequisite: Algebra II with teacher approval recommended.
AP
CALCULUS A/B
Grade 12
This course
is an advanced-level course for students who show above-average ability
in mathematics. It is a course in introductory calculus and elementary
functions. Topics include limits and continuity, differential calculus,
and integral calculus with applications.
Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry with teacher approval recommended.
TRANSITION
TO COLLEGE MATHEMATICS
Grade 12
This course
is designed for those students who need to prepare for college level
algebra, but whose college major will not require more than college
algebra. This course reinforces the topics of linear functions and
nonlinear functions as well as probability and statistics. This course
is taught on regular level.
Prerequisite: Geometry and Algebra II
