Agriculture Courses

Intro. to Agriculture Science & Technology
Grades 9-12

This course covers the applied and technical study of the various segments of the agriculture industry. Basic animal, plant, soil science, and agriculture mechanics are introduced. This course includes classroom study of the 14 mechanical skills. Skills such as woodwork, welding, hot and cold metal work, and electricity are introduced in this course. Following the classroom study, actual shop work is done. An in-depth study of FFA activities is also covered in this class. This class is required before taking other Agriculture course.

Intro. to Horticulture Science/Greenhouse
Grades 10-12

This course deals with the principles of horticulture through the study of plant structure and taxonomy, physiology, reproduction and development. Students also cover pest and disease identification and management as well as plant identification. There is greenhouse work in this class. Greene Management covers the principles of greenhouse management, planting and transplanting, and marketing principles. Much of this course work is done in the greenhouse.

Agricultural Structural/Mechanics
Grades 11-12

Students will be introduced to basic practices used in farm building and construction of facilities for the farm. Topics include FFA, SAEP, planning, tools, basic construction, surveying, and safety practices. A more in-depth look will be given to the technical areas of the agriculture structural industry, including safety, concrete and masonry, basic carpentry, plumbing, electricity, metal fabrication, and paint & finishing. This course connects scientific principles with mechanical skills. This course will enhance the student's understanding of the traditional areas of agriculture mechanics. It will also emphasize agricultural technology including such topics as electricity, internal combustion engines, metal technology, construction, and the development, role and scope of mechanical technology in agriculture.

Animal Science/Biological Animal Science
Grades 10-12

Animal Science is a general study of animal science and production designed to build on the information introduced in the Introduction to Agricultural Sciences and Technology course. Topics to be covered include economic importance of livestock, genetics and animal breeding, nutrition, health and facilities. Biological Animal Science is a comprehensive study of cattle production. Topics to be discussed are breeds, reproduction, health, management, exhibition, and marketing. The business aspects will also be covered along with ethical issues relating to the cattle industry.
